2022 is packed full of great reasons to come to Britain. Whether you are coming to visit friends or relatives, for business, studying or on holiday, there are 5 very special British events to watch for this year that you might enjoy.
These include; The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, big sporting events such as the Commonwealth Games and the Open, returns to St Andrews, Firth, Scotland this year, a fantastic expo featuring UK creativity and innovation and last but not least the anniversary celebration of 1900 years since Hadrian’s Wall was built.
If you are a culture buff, love sightseeing or sport, there is something for everyone to enjoy!
Personally, the most important event of 2022 is the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We have a long and unbroken tradition, in this country, of celebrating Royal Jubilees, and this will be no exception. The focus will be on 4 days of celebrations from 2-5 June 2022. But there are lots of events going on throughout the year and we will bring you up to date on these soon.
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen becomes the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee, seventy years of service, having acceded to the throne on 6th February 1952 at the age of 25.
Throughout the year, Her Majesty and members of the Royal Family will travel around the country to undertake a variety of engagements to mark this historic occasion culminating with the focal point of the Platinum Jubilee Weekend in June
1900 years since the building of Hadrian’s Wall
Events and activities to take place all year round.
There are going to be hundreds of events and activities to mark this anniversary. From a series of virtual tours, of the Cumbrian side of the wall, presented by Blue Badge Guide Anna Gray to Roman’s Return- a Big Birthday Bash given by the Vindolanda Trust.
The world-famous Ermine Street Guard will be celebrating their 50th anniversary year at Vindolanda. See military displays, a Roman camp and have a go at the Roman soldier school. And lots more!

The commonwealth games
The Games begin Thursday July 28 and end Monday August 8
The Games are the centre piece of The Birmingham 2022 Festival a six-month cultural programme starting in March 2022. The Festival is designed to reflect the people of the region, exploring heritage, diversity, and youth.
The Open, St Andrews
The 150th Open at St Andrews begins Sunday July 10 and finishes Sunday July 17.
This is the big one for all you golf fans! 162 years and 149 Opens later, the home of golf will host The 150th Open at the Old Course, St Andrews. On what is sure to be a historic Open with record crowds, the world’s greatest players will descend on Fife, to try and capture the Claret Jug.
